Summary of Work

The Bell Education and Career Center is being built on 13 acres conveyed to LAUSD by the Federal Government. Plans call for an 85,000 SF facility serving 15,00 to 20,000 students annually in Southeast LA County.

BEST Contracting Services, Inc. has been selected to perform Glazing, Roofing and Waterproofing for the buildings on this site. Work has only recently started at the site. At this early stage BEST, has erected the free standing metal roof shade structure and waterproofed the elevator pit.

As the work progresses over the next 10-12 months we will chronicle the progress and events which will demonstrate these various specialties.

Due to the multiple trades involved BEST has assigned one person as the "go to person". His sole responsibility is to coordinate the trades so that the project runs seamlessly and answer any and all questions from any source concerning the project, our schedule and our performance.

In this way it is intended that the project will proceed on time, on budget to a satisfactory completion.

Project Details

Waterproofed Elevator Pit
Mel-Rol Precon installed on underslab.   Mel Rol self adhered membrane placed on vertical walls and  covered with foam board and drainage mat.

Shade Structure (Pole Yard)
Standing Seam Metal roof over vertical supports.

Security Screens
These security screens look similar to an insect screen but are much stronger. The security screen installs in the window reveal of an existing window and is designed similar to a "pre-hung" door. The door portion has a heavy steel or aluminum frame that holds a steel perforated panel and hinges to a subframe.

Standing Seam Wall Panel
The vertical version of a standing seam metal roof (see above), as the fasteners are hidden there are no penetrations through the skin to rust or elongate.

Single Ply PVC Roofing
The roof area is partly standing seam metal and partly PVC Single ply Membrane.  Single ply roofing systems are constructed on site by hot air welding the laps and the details to form a long lasting watertight roofing system. 

Standing Seam Metal Roofing
Roofing system made from metal panels with raised seam engagements that are typically engaged and held down to the roof deck using hidden clips and fasteners.
